2.1.1 Design is based on use of Trash/Linen chute in compliance with NFPA codes, systems provided by Valiant Products, Inc., P.O. Box 405 Lakeland, Florida 33802, and the terminology used may include reference to that manufacturer’s proprietary products. Such reference shall be construed only as establishing the quality of materials and workmanship to be used under this Section and shall not, in any way, be construed as limiting competition.


2.2.1 Chute shall be construction of 16 gauge aluminized steel. Chute shall be fully factory assembled with all joints welded or lock seamed. There shall be one expansion joint per floor. All chutes shall have a flush interior and are assembled without bolts, rivets or clips protruding into the chute opening. Chutes shall be equipped with chute support clips pre-positioned at the factory to insure proper chute alignment. The intake door and frame shall be adjustable and securely fastened to intake throat. Off-sets, if required shall be reinforced and supported in impact areas. (Offsets must be approved by local building officials).

2.2.2 Sizes: The standard size shall be 24 inches per NFPA recommendations.

2.2.3 Intake Doors: The “B” labeled self closing intake doors shall be construction of 22 gauge polished stainless steel fronts and 18 gauge aluminized steel backs and wings. Each door shall be equipped with chrome plated Tee handle; fire rated latching mechanism and bottom stainless steel piano hinge. Size to be 18” x 18”, side hinged.

2.2.3 Discharge Doors: Shall be top hinged stainless steel hopper type door, held open with U.L. approved 165 degree fusible link. “B” label construction with steel angle frame assembly, drain panel and adjustable support pedestal. Size to be 24” x 30”.

2.2.4 Vent: Vent shall be made the same diameter as the chute and extend 4′ 0″ above the finished roof per NFPA recommendations. Vent shall be construction of 22 gauge galvanized steel and shall be complete with roof flashing to insure a water tight seal, and metal weather cap.

2.2.5 Accessories: Shall furnish one U.L. approved 1/2″ IPS flushing head and 1/2″ fusible link sprinkler head above top intake door complete with a fitting for connection by plumber. Additional sprinklers shall be provided at alternate floors.


The trash/ linen chute shall conform to all applicable building codes and be manufactured in accordance with the best practices of the industry. Material and workmanship are to be guaranteed against defects for a period of one year after delivery, other than that caused normal wear and tear.





1.1.1 Work Included: Provide linen chute complete and in place, tested and approved as shown
on the drawings and specified herein.

1.2.1 Standards: Comply with standards specified herein as listed in Section 1D. All terms in this section shall have the meaning defined in the ANSI code.

1.2.2 Qualifications of Subcontractor: The linen chute subcontractor shall be regularly engaged in the business of manufacturing; installing and servicing trash/linen chutes of the type required by these Specifications and shall have a local history of successful installations acceptable to the Architect.

1.2.3 Qualifications of Installers: Throughout progress of the work of this section provide at least one person who shall be thoroughly familiar with the specified requirements, completely experienced and trained in the necessary crafts and who shall be present at the site and shall direct all work performed under this section. Provide adequate numbers of skilled personnel who are completely familiar with the specified requirements and the materials and methods necessary for proper performance of the work of this Section. In acceptance or rejection of work performed under this Section, the Architect will make no allowances for lack of skill on the park of workmen.


1.3.1 General: Comply with provision of Section 1C

1.3.2 Product date: Within 45 calendar days after Notice to proceed submit:

(1) A complete list of all items proposed to be furnished and installed under this section.

(2) Manufacturer’s specifications, catalog cuts, and other date to demonstrate compliance with the specified requirements.

(3) Complete Shop Drawings of all work of this section, showing dimensions and locations of all items supporting structure and clearances required.

(4) Manufacturer’s recommended installation procedures which when approved by Architect, shall be the basis for inspecting and accepting or rejecting actual installation procedures used on the work


1.4.1 Protection: Use all means necessary to protect the materials of this sections before, during, and after installation and to protect the work and materials of all other trades.

1.4.2 Replacements: In the event of damage, immediately make all repairs and replacements necessary to the approval of the Architect and at no additional cost to the Owner.


3.1 INSPECTION: Examine the areas and conditions under which work of this Section will be performed. Correct conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the Work. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION: Install the work of this Section in strict accordance with the approved Shop Drawings, the original design, and all pertinent regulations and codes anchoring all components firmly into position for long life under hard use.

3.3 TESTING: Upon completion of the installation, and as a condition of its acceptance provide all necessary equipment and personnel and perform all tests required. Secure all required approvals from agencies having jurisdiction.
